InternationalDJ,producer,labelowner,globalplayer–it’sallexpressionsyoucanhearineveryday’smedia.Butwhoarethepeoplebehindthosekindofexpressions?Someonelikeyouandme,oraretheylikeghosts?Europetoday,USAtomorrow,sleepingontheplaneandwakingupinanothertimezone,onanothercontinent,drivenbywhatdefinesthemasDJsandProducer–bymusic.
Shaneisdefinitelyoneofthem.Hewasbornin1976inGermany,starteddjinginthejuvenileageof16andfoundhishomebaseyearslaterattheevent-andbooking-agency“Hertzmusic”inKaiserslauternearly2002.TherehecouldbeheardasresidentDJintheCameo-Clubandonthefamous“Hertzclub”party-seriesfrom2002-2007.Butthatwasjustthebeginning.
AfterhisfirstbiggigsinEuropefrom2000onwards(likeonIbiza|Spain)hefinallygotthechancetoshowhisskillsononeofthebiggeststagesintheworld.Andthatwastochangehislifeforever:
In2005ShanebecameguestresidentDJoftheViproomShanghai|China.TogetherwithitsresidentDJDaveKheplayedoneweeklongfromMondaytoMondayandcouldsoclaimhisplaceinoneoftheworld’sbiggestcities,knownforitsoutstandingnightlifescene.InAugust2005anexclusivelive-set,recordedintheViproom,waspresentedbyDaveKinhisradioshow“MistyShanghai”.
Afterhisguestresidencywasfinishedinend2006,ShanewentonasmallclubtourthroughShanghaishottestclubsliketheClubFeel,theViproomandthefamousdkd.ThroughthedkdShanecouldestablishclosetiestotheChineseundergroundmusicsceneandbecomefriendswithdkd’sresidentDJPatrickMai.
DuringhistimeinChina,Shanemixedthe5thVolumeofthe“ElectroFashion”CD-compilationliveintheViproom,whichthenwaspresentedbyChivasRegalandreleasedinwholeChina.OnthatCDweretwoofShane’sowntracks,“Hitomi”,aprogressivehousetrack,andaprogressivebreakbeattrackcalled“Zero”.Bothtrackswerereleasedin2007ontheUSlabel“OceanDriveRecords”.
BackhomeinGermany,Shane’ssuccessremainedlargelyunheard.Progresswasn’tthatfast,electronicmusicdevelopedtoamoreminimalisticstyleandDJsherestuckonusingvinylandturntables.Shanehoweverwasplayingdigitally,whatinternationallyseenhasalreadybecomeastandard–butitstilldidn’tseemtoworkoutinGermany.
TheAsianscenefascinatedShane.SincehisfirsttriptoShanghaiin2005,hecouldn’tgetridofthefeelingofneverhavingreturnedfromthere.AndallthoseAsianinfluencesarestillpresentinallhistracksandsets,whichareaffectedbydeep-,trance-,andprogressive-housemusic.
Aprilof2007,ShanewenttoyetanotherclubtourthroughsomeofChina’smostinfluentialcities–Shanghai,ShenzhenandHongKong.Inatotalof7locations,likeintheAbsoluteHouse(Shanghai),whichisoneofChina’sbiggestclubs,heoncemorecouldprovehisspecialskills.InSeptember2007therewasyetanotherclubtour,whereShanehasbeentravelingandhittingupthehottestlocationsofChina,HongKongandThailand4weekslong.
BackinGermany,Shanealwaysusedthetimebetweentouringforworkingonnewtracksinhisstudio.Allthishardworkfinallypaidoffintheendof2007,whenShanegotsignedasanartiston“BitRecordsMexico”,oneofthemostinfluentialprogressivelabelsworldwide.
Pushedbythesuccessof2007,Shanedecidedtofoundhisveryownrecord-label.“JetlagDigital”wasborninthespringof2008anditwasraisedwithlotsofloveandcaretobecomeoneoftheonlyinternationalprogressivehouselabelsbasedinGermany.
Justwhilestartedtoestablishhislabel,Shanewentona3week-longclubtourtotheUSA,whereheplayedinmajorclubsinDallas,AustinandSanAntonio.Oncemore,thetourhasbeenacompletesuccess.
